Scrum training that builds real understanding, not just a certificate

The Certified Scrum Master course is designed to give everyone in a Scrum team, not just those stepping into the Scrum Master role, a thorough grounding in how Scrum works, why it is structured the way it is, and how to make it effective in practice. Whether you are new to Agile or have been working near Scrum for some time, a well-facilitated CSM course typically surfaces insights that change how people approach their work.

The course is delivered by Jon Spruce, a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer (CST). That distinction matters: only a CST can award the CSM certification, and the accreditation process ensures the trainer brings genuine depth and coaching experience, not just familiarity with the Scrum Guide.

The two days cover Scrum theory and foundations, all roles, events and artefacts, and a range of practical applications, including how Scrum operates in real-world circumstances such as remote teams, fixed-price contracts, and third-party supplier relationships.

What your people will learn

  • How to participate actively as a Scrum Team member
  • How to function effectively as the Scrum Master for the team
  • How to plan and deliver a successful Scrum project
  • How to define and use Scrum artefacts including the Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, Increment, and Burndown Charts
  • How to set up and facilitate Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective
  • How to apply Scrum in real-world situations including remote teams, fixed-price contracts, and third-party suppliers
  • How to help teams transition to a more Lean and Agile way of working
  • How to combine Scrum with Kanban, XP, and other Agile approaches

Why organisations choose CSM

A well-run CSM course builds shared language and understanding across a Scrum team. When everyone, not just the Scrum Master, understands how Scrum works and why the structure exists, the team becomes more self-directing and less reliant on constant facilitation. That shared foundation tends to pay back quickly in better team events, more useful retrospectives, and a smoother Sprint rhythm.

Organisations also use it as an accessible entry point for managers and stakeholders who need to understand Agile delivery without a heavy technical focus.

Delivery options

We offer this course as a private cohort for organisations, or as a public course where individuals can book a place alongside practitioners from other organisations. Both formats are available remotely or in person across the UK, Europe, and the USA.

Private delivery keeps the discussion grounded in your team's actual context. Public delivery is ideal where individuals want to train alongside peers from outside their organisation.

About the Scrum Alliance CSM

The Scrum Alliance is the world's largest Scrum certifying body. The Certified ScrumMaster® designation can only be awarded through an accredited Certified Scrum Trainer, a requirement that ensures the course is delivered with genuine depth and practical grounding, not just content presentation.
