Taking product ownership beyond the backlog
The Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner course is a highly interactive two-day programme for Product Owners who have mastered the basics and want to develop the more sophisticated skills that enable them to maximise value across complex product environments. The course includes discussion, group exercises, and practical techniques that attendees can apply immediately.
The course enables Product Owners to work more effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, balance competing priorities across multiple Sprints, take a user-centred approach to product discovery, and manage a Product Backlog that communicates clearly with all audiences. It also addresses how to validate assumptions through appropriate metrics while remaining aware of common cognitive biases that can distort product decisions.
Delivered by Jon Spruce, a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer, the A-CSPO builds directly on the CSPO and reinforces the core responsibilities and accountabilities of the Product Owner role, including how continuous improvement applies to product ownership itself.
What your people will learn
- How to appreciate the full importance of the Product Owner role and its responsibilities
- How to balance competing needs of a diverse group of stakeholders over multiple Sprints
- How to set goals and plan in line with a clear, evolving product vision
- How to ensure the product maintains focus on the features of most value to customers and users
- How to manage, refine, and communicate a Product Backlog to all stakeholders, including multiple teams
- How to define business value and validate learning using appropriate metrics, with awareness of cognitive biases
- How to communicate with and facilitate all appropriate stakeholder groups to achieve alignment
- How to apply continuous improvement as a Product Owner
Why organisations choose A-CSPO
Product Owners who have been practising for a year or more often find they have developed their own approaches that work well in some situations and less well in others. The A-CSPO provides the structure and techniques to fill those gaps: more rigorous goal-setting, better stakeholder facilitation, and clearer thinking about how to measure and validate the value the product is delivering.
It is particularly valuable for Product Owners working in complex environments with multiple stakeholder groups or across more than one team.

Private delivery keeps the discussion grounded in your team's actual context. Public delivery is ideal where individuals want to train alongside peers from outside their organisation.
