SPCT is the highest SAFe credential and not a deliverable course by any Partner. It is managed by Scaled Agile Inc, and awarded after a 12–24 month long learning and assessment programme.
Learning Pathways by Role
Select your role to see the recommended SAFe certification journey. Pathways are adapted from Scaled Agile's published guidance. All courses are delivered privately by AgilityPro.
Team Members working in an Agile Release Train need a solid grounding in how SAFe teams plan and deliver. SAFe DevOps is a strong recommended addition once the core team operating model is established, alongside micro-credentials such as Conflict & Collaboration and Responsible AI.
Scrum Masters in SAFe need both team-level agility and ART-level coaching skills. After SSM, the pathway branches into SAFe for Teams or SAFe DevOps — both routes then open up three micro-credentials (Responsible AI, Conflict & Collaboration, Value Stream Mapping) that reconverge at SAFe Advanced Scrum Master. From SASM, multiple senior options branch outward.
Product Owners in SAFe operate within an Agile Release Train and need both a strategic and delivery-level view. After Leading SAFe and POPM, the pathway branches into SAFe for Teams or SAFe DevOps — both routes lead to Agile Product Management for those moving into product leadership.
Product Managers in SAFe need to understand how value flows from strategy to teams. The POPM course is the core credential, after which the pathway branches via SAFe for Teams or SAFe DevOps, reconverging at Agile Product Management. Implementing SAFe is available for senior practitioners supporting broader transformation.
The RTE role is the most cross-functional in SAFe. Leading SAFe branches in parallel into POPM and SAFe Scrum Master, both of which reconverge at SAFe for Teams before the dedicated RTE course. From RTE, further development branches across DevOps, portfolio, and transformation credentials.
Architects need to understand how SAFe handles technical enablement, system architecture and DevOps at scale. Leading SAFe branches into three parallel preparatory courses, POPM, SAFe for Teams, and SAFe DevOps, all of which reconverge at SAFe for Architects as the role-specific credential.
Technical Leads follow a similar technical learning route to Architects, but the pathway is more delivery-facing: Leading SAFe, POPM, SAFe for Teams and SAFe DevOps create the foundation, with SAFe for Architects as the advanced technical credential and Value Stream Mapping as a useful supporting micro-credential.
Leaders and line managers play a critical role in enabling Agile adoption. Leading SAFe provides the mindset and enterprise context. Lean Portfolio Management builds investment and prioritisation capability. From there the pathway branches into further development options depending on how closely the leader is involved in delivery or transformation.
Executives and Business Owners are a critical part of a successful SAFe adoption. Leading SAFe gives them the strategic context needed to sponsor and shape transformation effectively. The Business Owner micro-credential is specifically designed for this role, and Lean Portfolio Management adds the investment and prioritisation layer relevant to senior decision makers.
PMO Leaders and Portfolio Managers need to understand how SAFe handles investment decisions, flow, and portfolio governance. Leading SAFe and Lean Portfolio Management are the two core courses. From LPM, the pathway branches into Implementing SAFe and supporting micro-credentials depending on the depth of transformation involvement.
Project Managers transitioning into SAFe environments need to understand the enterprise context first. Leading SAFe then branches in parallel into POPM and SAFe Scrum Master — both of which converge at Implementing SAFe for those ready to develop a broader transformation view.
Agile Coaches and ART Coaches need breadth across the full SAFe model. Leading SAFe branches in parallel into POPM and SAFe Scrum Master, both of which reconverge at SAFe for Teams. From there the pathway leads into Implementing SAFe as the core coaching credential, with Advanced SPC and further options branching for senior practitioners.
Consultants supporting SAFe programmes need both the enterprise overview and the practical implementation depth. The pathway moves quickly into Implementing SAFe as the core credential. From SPC the pathway branches into Lean Portfolio Management, Advanced SPC, and supporting micro-credentials for those specialising in delivery or portfolio engagements.
Not sure where your team fits? The pathways above are adapted from Scaled Agile's published guidance. In practice, the right starting point depends on your organisation's context, what is already in place, and what you are trying to achieve. A short conversation usually makes this straightforward to work out.
About SAFe Micro-Credentials
Micro-credentials are short, focused learning experiences that sit alongside full certification courses. They combine a self-paced online element with a live facilitated session and are typically completed in half a day.
AgilityPro regularly delivers the following as private sessions:
- Business Owner — for leaders and executives in the Business Owner role
- Advanced Facilitation: Value Stream Mapping — hands-on VSM facilitation skills
- Conflict & Collaboration — interpersonal and team dynamics in a SAFe context
- Achieving Responsible AI — practical and ethical AI integration in organisations
Build a pathway for your organisation
Most organisations need a mix of courses across multiple roles. We can help you map out a coherent learning programme that covers the right people in the right order, within your timeline and budget.
Private training means the whole group learns together using your real context — which makes the difference between training that sticks and training that does not.
